Fauna Friday: gannets

Gannets at Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve. They are doing their courting display and do you see their youngster? Just to this side of them.
You won't see gannets at any seaside cliffs. There are colonies in only a few places in Britain and this is quite a big one. They remind me of torpedoes. They dive vertically into the sea, sometimes from a great height and at some speed, folding their wings back. They can reach 100 km per hour which is pretty fast (though no match for the peregrine falcon which can reach 322 km p h)
